Dear Family & Friends,
I have been experiencing the winter blahs for the last several weeks but am going to try to get with the program & bring you up to date about the happenings here in the mission.
We have been doing the usual weekly things as scheduled but have added a few out of the ordinary things. We have been to several more wards or branches here in the stake hoping to stir some of the YSA’s to action (Grafenwöhr on Jan. 11, Bayreuth on Jan. 25 & Coburg on Feb. 1). We have had pleasant experiences & hope to be able to implement some new ideas that have surfaced soon.
On Sat., Jan. 17 our mission district went to dinner at Müllers. It was fun to just relax a bit & get better acquainted. The food & atmosphere were super as usual.
On Sun., Jan. 18 we got together with the YSA’s in the Center. Played a few games, visited & ate before watching the CES Fireside. It was so wonderful to listen to President Monson. He said just tons of things to be thought about. You might want to read it on the web. We only had eleven in attendance but our hopes were many more because it was the prophet.
On Sat., Jan 24 there was a Sisters’ Conference for the Stake. It was very inspirational & very well attended. I ended up playing a piano solo, I Am a Child of God, as a last minute request because the sister that was suppose to had an emergency that she had to take care of. I got the call at about 1:30 pm & the Conference was due to begin at 3:00 pm. I just played something that I had planned to do as part of the prelude and because I didn’t have long to worry about it felt fine about my performance & didn’t get sick as result of all the stress. I also accompanied the sister that sang a solo & played the three hymns that regularly go with such an occasion. I seem to have a lot of extra help from above when serving as a missionary. I observed the same thing about my musical performances when I was a young missionary in Canada, too.
We said good-bye to one of our favorite elders, Elder Spencer Christensen from Brigham City, on Tues., Feb. 3. A nicer more dedicated elder you couldn’t find. He must have wonderful parents, don’t you think?
Well that about says it all from here. The weather is starting to warm up & am I ever ready for that. It has been the coldest winter in Nürnberg in @19 years. We had a two week cold spell that saw temperatures drop to @17 degrees below on several days & that is the converted fahrenheit reading.
